Softlite vs. softbox

I've been scoping out some light kits and I wanted to see if any of you had any experience with softlites (internally reflected light sources).

I was wondering how these lights compare to softboxes. There aren't any suppliers in my area, so I'm not able to check them out for myself. Thanks

you'll get more light per watt out of a soft light then a softbox, if thats important. Both work great, the zip or soft light takes less space then the softbox, but the soft box is more versatile in that you can remove the box and use the base fixture. So it's what ever fits your needs.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply. A soft box is definitely more versatile.

I know the size of the source affects its softness. Most of the softlites that are included in the kits I've come across are a bit smaller than most soft boxes. Any ideas on how much this might affect the quality of the light. Would a 24x24 soft box be noticeably softer than a 19x16 softlite?

Also the soft lite it ready right away, you don't have to mess with putting it together like the boxes.

I have both in my kit and like both of them, but the boxes much more often.

The zip lights aren't going to give you light that's as soft as that coming from a softbox due to the size of the source.
