Softlight from redhead

Hi Guys,

Just after suggestions on turning a redhead into a softlight. I looked into a softbox but they are very expensive. Does anyone have a cheaper, safe alternative ?

Thanks.

Easy -
Put some heavy diffusion on the doors, 216 would be nice. You could go farther and build a snoot out foam core, make it 2+ feet long and wider at the end. The you can make frames with different types of gels that you can slip in, depending on need. The whole thing could be clipped to the barn-doors when needed. Basically you are just making your own, cheaper, chimera. You can also buy some cheap ($10 new, a few bucks at goodwill) white window sheers and just stick them on a c-stand arm and move it closer or further to the light, where it is needed. Remember - the closer to the subject, the more soft wrap you will get around their face :-)

I buy the RIFA lights. They are quick to setup, quick to break down and won't break the budget:

750 watt >> http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/285877-REG/Lowel_LC96Z_Rifa_lite_66_1_Light.html

Comes with a case, stand, lamp, lamp pack

250 watt ... just bought one of these for interview key light

$250 gets you the light, stand, carry bag, lamp & lamp pack...fantastic deal

Again, if you've never used a Rifa light you simply pull the cord out of the handle and it opens the soft box like an umbrella. Then you put your diffuser on the front (they all come with one and there are others available).

Best bang for the buck.

They also come in 1k & 500 watts.
