Softie vs Foam

I was wondering what the pros and cons are of foam and softies.
Currently I'm kinda out of space on my XH A1. The VidLED occupies the hot shoe where I normally put my microphone with softie. So I have to place it in the microphone holder. But when I zoom out to widescreen, the softie gets in the VOF. I can solve it by using foam in stead of the softie.

However, I never really experimented with the foam in heavy wind conditions and I don't know which one lets sound go through better.

Can someone please clarify the pros and cons of using foam and softies?

The foam is not good in wind. One day I was outside trying the foam in some moderate wind, and it was not good. The softie is much better for this. If you don't have enough place in the hotshoe, you can buy a raiser for the mic holder.

I have such a raiser, it's the Rycote softie mount, so I guess I'll have to use that and position my microphone more backwards. I'm just afraid that it would pick up too much camera sound. But we'll see. I only use this setup for wedding parties, when I can't lav anyone and I need the VidLED.

The Rycote Softie Mount CCA will fot the mic. clamp of a Sony or Canon camera and shock-mounts the microphone.

Alternatively there is the Rycote Multimount v2 which fits the hot shoe.

In addition there is the Rycote Hot Shoe Extender which can either act as a "stereo bar" for mounting two items, or will, in effect, move the shoe slightly higher and to the side or rear to keep the mic. out of shi*.

I hope this helps.
