Soften red audio peaks? CS4

Hi guys, very simple question!

Is there any way to automatically soften the red peaks in my audio clips? I'm pretty sure the answer will be very straightforward, but I just couldn't find the effect/option/whatever. I only found "normalize max/all peaks to:" but that adjusts the overall gain, not the local gain at peaks.

Did you not just anser your own question? If you normalize to just before the red peaks than there you go..?

And what do you mean by auto?

If your audio is clipped, there's not much you can do.

I use the Levelator (http://www.conversationsnetwork.org/levelator/)

For whatever reason, it doesn't read WAV files that Premiere or Sound Booth put out, but AIFF works just as good. There's no controls, it's drag and drop, fingers crossed it does a good job.

ihatedv I mean I want to soften the peaks without changing the gain value for all the timeline.
