Would anyone have an idea of what softbox i should get for my Lowel DP light system?

I have a 500w bulb in it and i dont' want to buy one that will melt in the next 6months but i also don't want to pay a crazy price for one.

I'm going to NYC next and i'm hoping to go to B&H, so any suggestions would be greatly apprciated.

Cheap alternative to a softbox is bouncing your 500 DP off of a piece of foamboard. Have the light itself at a low angle and then angle your foamboard toward the subject using a c-stand arm at your 45% above-subject angle. The larger your board, the softer the light will be on your subject. If it's still not soft enough, put a silk just out of frame so that it diffuses the light further on the subject's face. My second strategy would just to put diffusion (gels, silks, scrims, etc.) in front of the light until it gets your soft quality. I personally feel (and this is just my opinion) that softboxes are worth the money ONLY if you need super fast setup times. If you don't, you will get a better quality light and better shadows by bouncing and diffusing with your everyday stuff.:)

Also, check out the section in "Set Lighting Technician's Handbook" by Harry C. Box on building your own softboxes and chicken coops. Great stuff!

Get a Westcott 24"x32" and put a 1K lamp in your DP light.

It's very well made and a great piece of gear for the cost. I'd also recommend the Photoflex LDP401 connector which you should be able to find for 70 bucks.

Thanks Chris for the info.

Would i absolutely need 1k light with this softbox? I'm using these light in a small room, basically in my basement, for close testimonial style shoots, do you think the 5oow would suffice?

Since this is an easy and inexpesive way of using my light without a softbox, i will try it tonight, thanks for the info.

Any size lamp in the fixture would work fine.
