Can anyone tell me the right combination of gells used to match tungsten light to sodium vapor. What works the best in this situation....... thanks

Re: Sodium vapor

Low pressure sodium vapor lamps emit a very sharp peak around 590nm--yellow, just edging into orange.  So an orange-yellow filter like a CT Straw will approximate it reasonably well.  I've also found that your ubiquitous CTO will do a decent job as well.  Because of the spikey nature of sodium lamp's emission, a filtered tungsten light can come close to the color, but not duplicate the quality of the light.

Re: Sodium vapor

Yeah, the issue is how accurately do you need to match it?  Some sodium vapor lamps have CRI's as low as 20 or so!  So only parts of the visible light spectrum will be visible.

Barry_S's advice is spot-on.  Something else I'd suggest you consider would be to go find one of the lamps you're trying to emulate, and set up a tungsten light right next to it, and look at it through the camera and change gels, etc., to see how close you can get.

Re: Sodium vapor

a lot of the DP's I've worked with have used party gels instead of CTO or CTS. I can't recal the exact flavors they used though. Try the ambers.
