Social Experiment: TV

Since the change over to DTV, I thought, hmm, let's hold off buying a converter for awhile and see how it goes, just as an experiment

And you know what, I have gotten a lot done. Occasionally I will throw a movie in the player, but for the most part, I don't seem to miss it.

I get the news from the radio to and from work, to see what is happening. But as for the idiot box, I think I have broken my addiction.

Getting more sleep, more done, creativity is up in leaps and bounds.

Bad move, FCC.

Now, about my Internet posting problem.........

We dropped all but the most basic cable plan a while back (we don't need a converter here for that). There wasn't really anything worth watching anyway, aside from Telemundo to help me brush up on Spanish skills and see what the Plateados were up to. Not even close to worth what we would have to pay to keep it, now I tend to watch things that are worth watching more often than what happens to be on. Not nearly as extreme as your change, of course, but I get it.

Hi Doc:

I turned off DirecTV in 2002. It stayed off until the Olympics last year. I made a deal with my daughter that if shot brought home straight As, I would turn it on for the Olympics. She did and I did. Unfortunately, I have had to extend it as she keeps on getting straight As. Of course, she watches all of thos terrible shows, American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance? , Heroes, etc.

I would like to turn it off, it is a huge ripoff, close to $60.00 per month, but daughter and wife are addicted, it is like crack. We went seven years with no television and as soon as the kids move out, it will definitely go dark again. I am much too busy with worthwhile pursuits like writing, reading, photography, short films, camping and I really want to get back into scuba.
