Soccer Stadium

Hi Everybody,
I'm in Los Angeles. I'm looking for a stadium that will allow me to bring 20-40 people (fans) to stand behind the goal posts and do some filming. I'm trying to capture the feeling of a Huge Game!! so the idea of filming in a park is not an option. Unless you guys have a better idea of creating this feeling.
I thought of stock footage and green screen, but its very hard to find stock footage of a goal with net and tons of fans behind it without any goalie infront of the goal. plus it would limit the angles I could shoot.
Any suggestions on how to shoot this or where to shoot it would be greatly appreciate it.
(think Penalty kicks. -- shoots from behind the guy kicking the ball, looking at the net, -- shots from below about 15ft infront of the goal, looking at the goalie diving for the ball -- shots from the side as the ball approaches the net -- I would love a shot from the goalies POV but it would require the background to be a stadium full of people.)
Thanks,
Luis

Unfortunately, you are going to need some CG work if you want to pull off the reality that you really are in a stadium with thousands of people...Apart from that, just make sure you pay attention to your framing, and maybe even consider finding a CG artist or two to come on board before you shoot, that way you know what you can/cannot shoot in terms of compositing work. Good luck!

Thanks guys.
We've thought about the shooting down, and we might do some of that, but one of the main shots should be from the bottom up to try to capture the goalie jumping up in the air.
As for CG work, I can do some CG myself, but we are trying to use this as a last resot. Unless we can get access to a stadium or High School Stadium, I think we are going to have to go the CG effect way.
Open to any other ideas. thanks.

Do you have any budget whatsoever? I would recommend asking around at some of the fancier high schools in the area, for starters. La Cañada or Pacific Palisades might have something good for you. And since you're exclusively outdoors it will probably be much easier to get permission to film... you may not even need to pay a guard.

You might also consider doing this at a Greek theatre. If you brought in your own goalposts and painted a few lines, it could probably be made to work, depending on what you're really looking for. There's a nice one at Occidental College, and others similar in Griffith Park, Pomona, etc. I would also guess that LMU would have one.

Finally, just hit up the actual stadiums around and see what you can get. If you're polite and your shoot won't do any damage and it's short enough, you might be really surprised what you can get from people for little to nothing. The problem with what you're asking is that most of the soccer stadiums I know are actually just part of a whole track-and-field facility, and don't have bleachers directly behind the goals... just to the side. But here's a few suggestions anyway: Pierce College, College of the Canyons, East Los Angeles College

Hey Doug,
Great suggestions. This is what I was hoping to hear. I looked at Mapquest and turned on the Aerial Photo map to search for stadiums with bleaches. Pretty resourseful tool. I realized that most have bleaches on the sides not on the ends. My friend suggested moving the existing poles. if they have any and if they allow us. I also thought of maybe doing the posts and net in CG and just shooting on the side bleachers. (I'm skeptical that the idea of building a 24' span without it sagging is feasible. and I can't imagine how much those post cost.). We will start making some calls soon and see where this all goes.
Thanks again for your suggestions everyone. (especially your's doug. Now I know locations to start looking)
ps: about the track being between the field and the bleachers, I think it will work anyway. I was watching some footage that showed the field then a 3' barrier with advertising, and then 15-20' behind a 5-6' barrier and then the bleachers. so this might be acceptable.
