I have searched around the site and see a few here and there that seem to have "gone somewhere" gotten major distributor, substantial theatrical release, got into sundance etc...

"Moon Shine" got into sundance
(anyone find any info to confirm it was done on DVX?)

"November" won best cinematography at sundance

"Fronterz" got a Direct To Video release into Blockbuster

"Rap Quest" got a direct to video release into NetFlix

what else is out there guys?

Well. Right now, I'm working on a feature documentary, and we're in negotiations with a couple distributors. It was shot on a DVX, and a Sony Handicam.

PS. I just reached 600 Posts!!!

Murderball, and The Aristocrats, at least. Something like "9 song" or something, I don't remember -- but there were four DVX films in the theater this last summer.

Cavite has pretty good potential. It did well at SXSW and other fests and caught the attention of John Pierson who made it his class project for film repping (he's "retired" so he wont officially "take on" any more projects, so that's as big as it gets if you value John Pierson's contributions to independent film) and is getting some kind of theatrical this year....dont know to what degree. I read a Pierson interview where he said that Gilmore will be kicking himself for not letting it into Sundance because it would have been this years "Primer". I saw a 15 min portion the director sent me a while back and it was indeed fanfriggintastic.

Mad Hot Ballroom - by FAR the best looking DVX movie out. Much better than Sleepover Nightmare, Aristocrats, and Love in the Time of Money.

Well, we should point out that Murderball was just nominated for an Oscar for Best Documentary... that's got to be a first for a DVX movie, or any DV movie, right?

That is soooo cool!

I thought the McDonalds one ("Supersize Me," I think) was nominated for an Oscar last year. Deffinetley DV. PD-150 or 70 if I remember correctly.

I've got a director friend, Lance Tracy, that shot a documentary on the porn industry & effects on people, etc. (www.1726entertainment.com) ... check out the trailer ... had me laughing.

Anyway, shot on the DVX100a, and has some interest in distribution. He hired me for camera work for a couple of days, one of which was interviewing Art Alexakis, from the band EVERCLEAR.

At the very least for his investors' sake, I hope he gets the distribution & does well with it.

ok, I know that trailers are often times the only "best part" of a movie, but that trailer looked really well put together, and if nothing else it seems like it is really funny and provocative!

And it sounds controversial enough to generate the kind of debates (see: buzz) that should land it a nice big contract!
