So what CAN you do with a DVX and some creativity?

That opening shot in running test one is so goddamn nice! if you didn't rent out the street how did you get that? What equipment did you use for both running tests?

You've got a real good eye for this car commerial stuff.

....and you got the job?

here is what I do with a dvx100:

www.dv3productions.com

every spot on our commercial reel is a dvx100, shot by me

some of them are animation, as you can tell when you watch the reel.

Evin:
Pretty neat stuff. I'm guessing you put the small crane on the back of a pickup? I dig the angles you got. Did you use a wide angle lens at all? This is actually pretty cool of you to post these as there are a number of local car guys who would like videos of their sports cars to play at car shows... I see a small market opportunity in making them :) Thank you for inspiration. Brian

evin,

very cool stuff. please reveal the details. did you have to close off roads? did you have to get a permit to shoot this stuff? And how did you, exactly, get those low craning shots of the car's wheels? How many people were in the crew? And how exactly did you get that stabilized high angle shot looking down at the windshield? Inquiring mind wants to know.

No closed roads, crew of 4, one shooting vehicle (Mercedes ML320), One DVX100A mounted on a Cobra crane 1+. The Cobra crane was mounted on a head on a high-hat on an applebox and ratchet strapped down to the back of the ML. The rear hatch, which opens up, was secured with a ratchet strap and a gutter clip. I sat in the back of the SUV and opertated the crane which allowed for shots from ground level to about 7' in the air. I also turned the camera sideways in the crane to get the close shots. I was in walkie talkie communication with my driver so I could direct the driver what to do. I had a 9" monitor to see what I was filming as well as a Bogen remote Zoom controller. The mounted shots are done with the Filmtools three point suction mounts and a ratchet strap for safety. The high mount shots used the same system but with C-Stand arms to get the camera 40" off the hood. The Mitsu job got cancelled because they ran out of $. But I have another lead on a Scion job so this may end up working out well.
