My friends and I shot a movie on Saturday, what a rush. Used my trusty DVX100a and I was so happy with the results. It will just be a horror short, we may do a few more in the future and put them together in a "Creepshow" fashion.
Wait, let me back up. I should explain that during "working hours" myself and the rest of the crew/actors come from a commercial background. So to get out and use our equipment for projects that don't involve crooked attorneys, shady car dealers and crap restaurants ...well, it's a nice change. (It's also nice to use company monitors, c-stands, gels and other necessities for what they were intended!) We've only shot one short film prior to this, but now we're hooked.
I've been toying around with the notion of selling my DVX and picking up an A1, but I gotta tell ya, it's going to be tough to part with it. So many times when I was setting up my shots yesterday, I couldn't believe how good everything looked out of the gate, even before we started tweaking lights & camera settings. (granted, my expectations aren't that high)
To all the real filmakers out there who frequent the site, you have my respect. And to anyone thinking about shooting a film, I say go for it. Hopefully I'll be able to post something online soon.
