"So *that's* Where..."

Sad Max

Artful Dodger
Lunch today was the whole Art Department around the conference table, chatting while eating, and somehow or another talk turned to kids, and raising kids, and discipline, and marijuana, and smoking marijuana with your kids, and at about this point the Construction Coordinator turns to one of the Executive Producers who is sitting at another table, and says, "So *that's* where the Art Department gets all their ideas..."

Reminds me of this:

It's true.

Some really great creative works have been underwritten by the artists' misery.

Although while some people are willing to suffer for their art, I prefer to make other people suffer, for mine.

I agree, sometimes somber moods are the most creative moments for me. We now return you to your regularly scheduled "Witty Penguin Post:"

Why do it alone?

kidding, for any noobs who may think I am seriously into smoking marijuana with kids I do not have.

You borrow the neighbor's kids... wait, you are the neighbor's kid!

Or you can come to Ithaca.

Number 16 school for reefer madness.

(At least that's what it says online)

That's funny. I can see that happening. If I may chat a bit:

Pot was cool when I was younger. I'll smoke it now in some social circumstances, like when hangin with old musicans but otherwise not with strangers. Rarely actually.

It's cool to look at art when your high and think how awesome it is, but the fact is, art comes from the soul, not from the drug.

So, while some art may have been inspired by drugs, the artistic aspect was always there is the first place. Drugs do not an artist make. Any work I have ever done, either in 3D or musically, has always been done while dead sober. Then maybe I'll have a beer or a toke and say, that was kinda cool.

If anything, if it comes down to having to get impaired to create on a regular basis, then I would think something is wrong. Sometimes, a couple simple ideas might surface through a discussion, but the work has to be done sober, at least in my opinion.

To me, impairment always leads to impaired work. I learned that when I was a little kid, when I heard back the first 'acid-track' we did in a band when I was 15yrs old.
Never did that again. Okay, once 20 yrs later, and I fell off my chair laughing at that mess.
Studio work was always done dead sober.

Again, personally, I can lead a raunchy sub-culture style life. But nothing I've ever put out there has ever been done under the influence of anything.

...

Like they say, there's a time for work, and there's a time for play.
Knowing when to seperate the two is key.

//Several minutes later: I just realized something I said. I guess maybe I'll do at least one more with bro. Having learned a few things from JR this past year, maybe I can try out that stuff. I guess I owe at least one decent effort.
