So much for Stephen King's "retirement"

LOL. I think King's definition of "retirement" is one 6,000 page book every two weeks instead of ever week. I'm a huge fan, and never doubted that his next novel was just right around the corner despite his claims of retirement. The van accident really phased him, so I think he's still trying to get over that.

I have been a King fan for a long time though I waned during a "middle" period where I got kind of bored. My problem with his work is that he seems (to me) to not be able to finish a story. This isn't the case with everything but many times I've read his work only to get to the end and have it feel "tacked on" almost as an afterthough. Don't get me wrong, he's an incredible writer but it's just a fault I keep finding in his work.

The scariest thing I've read from him is "It". But again, I thought the ending was wanting. C'mon, a giant spider. All that great horror leading up to a giant spider just didn't do it for me.

But I still buy his books because of his style.

Absolutely! I've always held that opinion about "It". King has a couple of other books with endings like that, but the majority of his work is well constructed and thought out. I've been really impressed with some of his more recent stuff. Bag of Bones, From a Buick 8, Everything's Eventual. I think he's been on a roll recently.
