So many choices but... which SLIDER to get once and forever?

Hi everyone!
There are so, so many choices when it comes to sliders and I am completely lost which one to get.

I want to buy one and never look for another one again. One that will have a path to get a motor for it (not only for simple movement but possibly for parallax as well).
So far I am considering:
Edelkrone Slider Pro + Action module + Target module (con - it's very expensive)
Kessler Slider + Second Shooter
iFootage Slider

Others?

can't imagine the iFootage will be worth "forever"..... I had their mini jib and it was basically crap. Cheap.... but you get what you pay for.

legrevedotcom, dont know about ifootage jib but i read nothing but good things about the slider, and it's not that cheap

I bought a motorized slider first (the Digislider). It's nice, and slides look great....but
it is heavy duty and takes a little while to rig. I found I wasn't taking with me on faster
paced shoots because of the extra weight and rigging required. So I bought the Duzi.
Much shorter, lighter, and easy to set up center mounted on a tripod. So I kind of think
it is best to have a bigger, longer, motorized version for some things and a light, quick,
mobile one for other times. Duzi isn't always enough travel for me (24 inches I think?)
but for faster paced stuff you can add a little movement which is nice. On the other
hand the Digislider gives great, smooth motion with a wider range of travel, but I
dont always have time to set it up as you generally need to support it at both ends, plus
fit the motor on and so on.

I too am in the market. The Duzi looks interesting, but no motor options. I just watched a video of a guy on vimeo who was demoing a really nice slider. I forgot the name. Err! Is there a history option with Vimeo?

Cinevate Duzi looks really solid and pretty affordable BUT... motion controller for this is VERY expensive. I would even say overpriced. In the end you will spend more then buying something else.

What do you guys think of Edelkrone Slider Pro? Is this a slider that will withstand some serious usage?

Dana kills everything out there . Never understood sliders with there tiny travel distances for exorbitant prices when pro gear does a better job with longer distances for less with more stability and bigger payloads.

The bundle version of ifootage shark slider has an effective length of 12000mm, which isn't bad.

I don't doubt that Dana one is great though.

You don't want to go hiking with a Dana, I can promise you that.

+1 for the Duzi, even if it really could use some sort of dampening...

Dana.

If you go hiking then this is a specialty items (unless ALL you do is some nature/hiking videos). For generally everything else Dana is the best.

I can only speak for myself, with that in mind....
I've worked with a Dana Dolly.....when I'm part of a crew.

Basically a couple heavy C stands with wheels....and the dolly.....no big deal when you have
a crew working with you.....usually 5 or 6 PA's standing around doing nothing, so pretty
easy to get help moving it around and getting it set up.

But I don't live in a 'hub' of big production. When things come here and companies
want to hire me, I'm happy to crew for them (assuming they actually pay me a fair rate,
there are several who seem to think those of us who don't live in big cities are hicks who
don't know what a fair rate is). But far more often, I am hired to produce things by myself.
In these cases, it's nice to be able to get a bit of the 'high budget' look, even if I can't do the
exact same thing as what a entire crew with a Dana Dolly can do.

This past summer for example, I was hired to travel and make promo videos in
five or six small towns. The entire production, shooting, editing, lighting, sound etc....
was all up to me. The closest rental houses are about 1000 miles away, so no help there.
And even if there was a rental house in my town, traveling and packing all the extra gear for a Dana Dolly
would have been unworkable. But I can pack two Sony Super 35 cams, two sliders, two tripods and
a couple lenses pretty easy and carry it all myself.

Found it! Cinevate Hedron Slider! Looks like it is a very good slider. Here is a video about it...

Yes, I was totally blown away by the new Cinevate Hedron slider. A 5 lb slider that can handle a 100 lb camera package, that is whisper quiet when in motion, has a 1 to 3 axis motion control system option, a very good fly-wheel option, and a parallax system that is currently under development. Cinevate told me that you can special order track up to 12 feet long directly from them.

I had the same question. I tested Camdolly for a documentary. It's basically dolly but it has a slider too. Good build quality, it can handle also bigger camera. It works with C stands and you can easily make your own size buy just changing the tubes. I think they are working to make a motor.DSC_0545.jpg
