So long CCDs...HMC 150 discontinued

Is the 130/160 really the next alternative for the HMC150? Or do you think there is something Panasonic is brewing up to be the replacement for the 150?
I am sure others question this too. Do we buy another 150 before they are gone, or wait for something else. Not sure what I would get if my HMC150 died.
4k is not a concern for me yet.

The AC90 and/130/160 are Supposed to be the replacements (technically the 130 is while the 160 is supposed to be a step up) and while they have some advantages they also have some disadvantages and in my book simply cannot replace the 150. My answer was to buy another 150. Close to half our work is weddings and those combined with some of the other diverse "event" jobs frequently are better filled with the old 150.

Panasonic seems to be hush hush. Perhaps they feel the Ac130/160 fill the void. Or perhaps they will roll out another camera by surprise like they did with the AC90 and brand new AC8. I wish the 150 had focus in red....and 1080/60P would be nice as well.

I'm waiting too. Haven't seen anything that truly replaces it. Maybe the Canon XF300? Still though, an HMC150 with full faster chips and 1080/60p would be lovely to me.

Wow, I just visited the site today to see if there is a replacement to the 150 and now hear it's discontinued. Very sad. I guess I will keep on using my 40 and 150 team for the forseeable future, I need at least one CCD camera to get real footage with.

If I have to go to 2/3" in the future for CCD, I wont like it, but likely will. There are bound to be some deals on 2/3" in the used market. Edit: I just looked and there are some huge deals ($7k for EVERYHING) on entire HPX-500 setups. I wonder if this rig is huge compared to a AC160?

And this bad news is on top of the fact that Panasonic pulled the plug on their plasmas too. That forced me to go buy a spare TC-PVT60 for the future.

The HPX-500 is very similar to HVX200. Sadly I tried the best possible 2/3" wide angle and 22x premium HD broadcast lenses and it won't improve over the HDX900 or HPX2000. Still has that muddy look. Not much color matrix control. In fact, it's just like the HVX200. Severely limited to be exact. In 2014, I'd probably not want to stick w/ 2007 tech.

Whether we like it or not, CCDs will be phased out w/ Panasonic. They made it clear w/ the 2/3" PX5000 in 2013. CMOS looks a bit too sterile for me. Lack that warmth and depth when doing live coverage (non graded) clean video.

Two days ago the price was at $2495. If anyone wants one there's a few left on amazon for $2849 + shipping.

I sold my mint condition HMC-150 last week, as I was afraid of it becoming worthless ( or perhaps a rare commodity ) in the used market. I plan on replacing it with a PX270 later this summer. ( not a CCD camera, but something that I can definitely work with )

Just finished shooting a series of spring concerts with a pair of HMC150's and an AC160. Wow, the HMC is just soooo consistent. Great footage. I'm not letting mine go anytime soon. If I had to replace one....don't really know where I'd go.

Looks like they are pretty much all gone now. Amazon is out as well. Glad I have 3 of them. We've really been using them a lot lately. Certainly not perfect but they do a good job and I forsee using them for many years to come
