This past weekend I was booming (without a proper boom pole) but using a CMC641 with my 702 recorder. The boom I was using was a modified aluminum pole used for holding small lights or camera's on a 1/4 20mm thread. The microphone was not in any kind of suspension, just in the schoeps mic clip. This worked fine indoors, but we went outside and the talent was standing under a dripping roof line, as drips fell down onto the 'boom pole' they create a big POP in the recording (as anything hitting the cable would) and I was wondering what would have solved this problem?
a proper boom pole would still have been hit with the water, and I have to wonder what the pro's do when it is raining or dripping where you are shooting.
In all aspects the Schoeps CMC641 was amazing, truly amazing, but it is a little sensitive to handling noise, so I am considering the lyre suspension to fix that problem. Not sure how to fix the droplets?
