So I was over at Mr. Skin dot com....

LOL!! and saw this clip. Now, there really isn't any skin so anyone can look at it:

It's from the 1972 movie "Prime Cut" with Lee Marvin. I think the color and "look" of this is outstanding. It's just what I like. Not for nothing, but it's what I've been seeing in my head and am hoping to emulate. Besides, who doesn't love Lee Marvin...

Let me know what you think. It's a very short clip but again the look, for me, is there.

Puhleeeez....

Get your mind out of the gutter and focus on the look....

What are we, 12?

Ok, my ex-wife certainly thinks I am, but that's besides the point...

I just tried to emulate that look. Here are the settings I used:

Detail Level -2
Chroma Level -6
Chroma Phase -7
Color Temp - 3
Master Pedestal -14 (crush the blacks)
Iris +2
Gamma Cine-Like
Skin DTL Off
Matrix Cinema

Manual WB - Shoot indoors

I don't know anything, but I thought I'd share.

Thanks MattC. Always nice to see some Lee Marvin (cough cough). Like that line in Reservior Dogs:

Boy that was really exciting. I bet you're a big Lee Marvin fan aren't ya. Yeah me too. I love that guy. My heart's beatin' so fast I'm about to have a heart attack.

And George; thanks for that Screengrab.

I think there are four big parts to emulating that really gritty look in that clip.

1 - Of course, the colors and blacks

2 - It looks like the lighting is heavily masked off or scrimmed. Look at the wall behind the actress to the left of the screen - big bright spot and dark shadow right below. Also look on the pole behind Lee. And Lee has a big shadow on his left lapel yet he's also keylit pretty strongly.

3 - Adding film grain and/or diffusion

4 - Dirt. It doesn't look like someone's nice clean house or garage with a freshly scrubbed actress pretending to be a grungy character in a pretend-grungy place. It has a more realistic feel.

Is it just me or is there something way more creepy about the idea behind Mr. Skin dot com - leering at celebs for a rare glimpse of forbidden skin - than looking at plain old porn? LOL

No offense, MattC, as I'm talking about the site and not you for scoping it out, LOL

None taken, just be glad I didn't post a link to the site with the albino monkeys wearing lingerie...

It's just every once in a while you see a great look and this was one. I like harder lighting and I just like the look of this clip.
