I'm in the process of building a rig for a feature length documentary that will shoot this summer. The shoot will include interviews and b-roll at ground level, and it will also chronicle a one week hike up a 14,000 foot mountain. I would like an aesthetic that is continuous throughout the film, so I would prefer to use the same camera(s) at ground level, as well as on the hike.
Currently I've been shooting on the Canon 5D, but for this type of shoot I will need continuous shooting, and XLR capability for audio - I would love to find a camera that will match my 5D's quality AND I would love this camera to survive extreme wind/cold conditions. I have a 10-20 grand price range, is the C300 the best (only) option out there? If so, what type of a rig (lenses, mount, etc) would you recommend?
Thank you! Any help would be HUGELY appreciated
