Snod35 35mm adapter info

I had planned to make a DIY DVD/kit for the Snod35, but things just didn't work out. There were many who were very helpful and patient along the way, so it only seemed right to put together this write-up as to how I built the adapter. The info is not intended to be a DIY guide, but instead just some of the main bits of info and pics to help other DIY adapter builders.

I will do my best to answer any questions.

I've had problems finding that motor also. It's too bad it's discontinued, but this is what makes it fun! :) I've found a few others that I'm still waiting to test, that I believe will work out. We'll see...

I'm about thru, and everything looks really good. The grinding of the back of the plano-convex lens, if I can suggest. I use clear scotch tape on the side not being grinded, it helps prevent scratching (works great). :) You've out done yourself as always, and are an asset to this site!! Now I feel for you on the PM's!!!

I like your DIY spanner wrench, I *wish* I had thought of that...

Where do you find your 72mm spacer rings? I've searched but cannot find.

Any suggestions?
 
twocik23, thanks for the info on the GG and the typo. I have used scotch tape to protect the lens while grinding, and it works great. The glass of the F3 plano-convex lens is of great quality, and I have never had a problem with scratching the convex side while grinding. The tape of course is a nice safety measure since the F3 screens can cost around $20-30.

By the way, other plano-convex lenses can be used, but I love the ones from the Nikon F3 screens. They seem to grind evenly and once ground they can be wiped or rinsed without much worry of scratching or smudging. Don't get me wrong, they should still be handled with care, but not in the same way as a D screen or Beattie screen needs to be.

Thanks for the post j. I haven't seen the 72mm spacers lately on ebay. I was in constant contact with the seller when I was planning to make the DVD/kits. He said he could have as many as I needed ready. I'm hoping that is still the case.

A note about the 72mm spacers... they work great and are a decent price, but I have come across a few that did not thread into each other well. I don't think they are cut and threaded to precision, but again I have only come across a few that were duds.

Go for the jetsetmodels design. High quality, easy to build, and a nice guy.
 
Yes he is a nice guy, but I'd like to build Snodart's design with the pancake motor being sold on jetsetmodels.

Has anyone had success building Justin's design using a motor that's actually available?
