hello.
anyone who knows if it is possible to apply the smoothcamfilter to a clip in the timeline in FCP 6. seems to me that i can only apply the effect to objects in the browser? should be possible with induvidual clips in timeline too?
teupaksa
I've applied it to clips on the timeline just like any other filter.
I usually trim the clip to how long I want it, then add some room on either side for transitions then export the clip as it's own movie then import it back in since the smoothcam filter applies smoothing to the entire source clip and not just the portion in the timeline.
I put it on the time line add the filter and render it out. Works slick.
yes. thats eventually how i found a workaround as well. but i was thinking, and maybe it is a stupid question; am i loosing quality when i export and import a clip? i just get quality medium on compressor when exporting hdv to quicktime.
thanx for reply anyway..
Here is the official method from page III-466 of the manual:
1 Open the clip in the browser and set its In and Out points.
2 Choose File>Export>QuickTime Movie
3 In the Save dialog, do the following:
a Enter a name in the Save As field.
b Choose Current Settings from the Settings pop-up menu.
c Choose Audio and Video from the Include pop-up menu.
d Make sure that the Make Movie Self-Contained checkbox is deselected.
4 Click OK.
5 Import the movie you just created, then apply the SmoothCam filter.
6 Only the media defined by the Quicktime reference movie is analyzed.
