"SmoothCam" plugin

Any of you guys who knows of a plugin for Vegas like FCP's Smoothcam? It seems that Final Cut 6 and Premiere CS3 have this feature built in - but not Vegas 8.

Greetings,

Jacob.

WOW! I can't believe I have not heard of this before now. I just tested this, and again....WOW. I'll use this all the time.

well, if you think about it, the video needs to increase it's size ( lower resolution ) to add the added width and height so it can pan and scan the image depending on how much shake is involved. The great the margin of shake, the larger the area needs to be zoomed in on.

So like i said. We do lose resolution a lot right ?

It depends on how shaky the footage is. If it is really shaky then the video has to scale more. All deshakers work this way, which is why it is better to shoot it steady in the first place, but that is not always possible. When working with HD footage I find that the resolution loss is neglegable.

I´ve always asked myself that.
Of course when ending up SD, there´s enough resolution to zoom into HD footage for stabilization.
But how do I do it: do I take the HD fooatge to an SD timeline and then do the stabilizing?
Or stabilize first and then downconvert...?
Or does it matter at all?
My thinking is that when doing it in HD, I will further scale the footage bigger to fit the frame, thus unnecessaryly loosing resolution that isn´t needed for SD.
Or maybe stabilize in HD without "Fit-to-fill" the frame and then use a 3D camera to "fly into" the picture and crop an SD frame out...?
Ok,
I have no clue

If your final output is indeed SD resolution I think you would have to do a test to see which one looks better. In theory only scaling the footage a single time (ie stabalizing in SD timeline) should look better, but you never really know until you try.
