smoothcam will only reframe the object in the shot. it will learn what is eg, what is the horizon.then overlap the frames in the same spot. it can,t clean up the motion blur that in in each frame.a blurry frame is a blurry frame. thats a different problem. does work well for what it does. anything i shoot thats going to be shown slowmo ,and i run and gun , up the shutter speed depending on movement of camera, 2 ways to get blur ,motion blur of subject ,camera movment blur. settings can minamize this effect.

Do you have a bumpy shot that you are trying to smooth out or do you have a motion blur you're hoping to clear up? I'm a little unsure. As mentioned earlier, it can zoom in and keyframe 2D moves to create a smooth (shakes removed) shot. But motion blur is something else and not what smooth cam is meant for.

Have you tried playing with the settings at all? Are you just using the default values or have you started to tinker with them? I rarely ever leave it at default (usually I have to tone it down some). What percentage is at for the zoom?

Smooth cam is a great add-on filter for FCP, but its not 100%. You can run into shots that it just won't work on. You then need to try other filters, deal with the shot as is, or cut in a different shot. You could also try taking it to shake. There are more control options in Shake's smooth cam than in FCP's. It still might not work, but perhaps it has what you need for your problematic shot.

Cheers.

now i know what you mean. the play back will be hazy. that really concerned me when i did a clip or to.i even tested on a steady clip, and it even made it hazy. but don,t worry. when you burn it to dvd it comes back to clear. i don,t know why the play back looks so crappy ,but will not be like that when burned to a sequence.

Shake's Smoothcam is far superior to FCP's, in my experience, even before you get in there and start tweaking the results. This surprised me a little bit as I assumed the technology in FCP was ported over from Shake, but it really does not perform as well. If you can swing it, $500 ($250 if you're a student) is money well, well spent on Shake, for this reason and many others :)

im trying to fix a shaky shot not motion blur. As jetaddiction said its hazy. Yes thats a better way of describing it. Ill see what happens on the export.

Sounds like your shot may be very shaky so its increasing the file size too much to make it stable. You can turn that down, it will decrease the smooth motion, but its like anything, need to find the sweet spot for your footage.

I have found FCP smoothcam every bit as good as on shake.

no if you take a clean shot and run it through smoothcam it will play back hazy. but when you look at it frame by frame it will be crystal clear. but when you burn a dvd it must re-render becauce it looks crisp again. really had me worried. i don,t know why it does this but in the end it does work great.

Does smooth cam work with progressive footage? (24p 25p) ? This is my main problem with applying this filter. It does add a strange blur, as if an "in between frame" to smooth the motion...
