Smooth Cam - killing quality

To smooth out the shot, it needs to enlarge the image...scale it up so that then stabilize it. The worse the camera shake, the larger the image has to be scaled.
 
Depending on your final product, after smoothcam has determined the amount of enlargement, you could reduce this % and just crop the whole picture.

By reducing the picture enlargement you are returning the picture quality to nearer its original quality
