Smoking

Haha none of our actors smoke cuz' we're all underage - 16 or 17 year olds but most are willing to try nonetheless and not a single one has gotten addicted yet... I think... Alternatively, do a close up of someone who smokes then cut to a wider shot after the smoking. Gah this thread's probably already dead but I gotta add my 2 cents cuz its quite applicable to me. Haha.
 
Nothing to really add here on my end other than, The Smoking Man on the X-Files apparently smoked clove cigarettes so just go the herbal/clove route, but they should really inhale it if you want realism.
 
Thanks for all the great advice everyone! As it turns out, we decided to go with a completely different script without smoking. I guess I won't have any way to put your advices to use for a while :).

iffy, frankly I'm surprised. I started this post because I have a valid question about a film technique. If you do not wish to participate in the discussion then you don't have to read the thread. There's no room for personal attacks of any kind on this forum. For me there is no "dumb thread," and I doubt there is for anyone else on this forum either.

American Spirit makes an herbal cigarette that is non tobacco non niccotine, used all the time in film and theater.
 
don't mix up cloves with herbals. Cloves do have nicotine, and are strong as ****. At least the indonesian cloves that I smoke from time to time (my wifey is from indonesia. her dad brought some). About 2-3 times more nicotine and tar than the average "american" brand cigarette. Herbal would be the way to go, if you decide to do a script in the future that has smoking :) cloves are tasty, but you wouldn't want that if you are trying to avoid becoming addicted to nicotine :)
