i posted this in the fcp section but only got one response:

i'm planning a trip to the smokies in october and need help deciding how to shoot with my dvx100a for what i want to output to.

i definetly want 24p and 16:9.

i'll be outputing to dvd, vhs, and the program will air at the pbs affiliate i work at.

i want it to be able to be viewed as 16:9 on 16:9 sets and 4:3 (letterbox, i guess it would be, right?) on 4:3 sets.

how do i shoot it? what's the defference between shooting squeeze or letterbox. also, if my final output isn't for a film transfer, i don't shoot in 24pa, right?

also, how do i caputure it in fcp?

thanks for your help...brand new with this camera.

if this has already been covered, sorry for the redundancy -- please direct me to the link.

Shoot 24p advance in squeeze mode. Capture removing advanced pulldown and edit in a 23.9 timeline anaphorphic. When you output, make a final letterboxed version for VHS and broadcast, and an anamorphic version for DVD.

Your VHS will have to be letterboxed 4x3, but your DVDs will play 16:9 or letterboxed, depending on the TV... Also, when it's aired, I think it will have to be 4x3 letterboxed too...

Well it doesn't matter at what stage you crop it, what is important is that you have a cropped 16x9 letterbox version and an anamorphic version in the end, so you can make the DVD anamorphic (to be played in 16x9 televisions)...
