I am acquiring 3 Smith Victor 710SG lights which use a 600w G5.3 (Halogen/Tungsten) bulb that only lasts about 75 hours. I know that similar G9.5 bulbs (Halogen/Quartz) last 300 hours.
My question is: Is it possible to replace the socket in those lights with a different socket that will accept the longer lasting G9.5 bulbs?
I am more concerned about the safety/heat issues (if any) than the mechanical issues of whether the new socket will easily fit in place of the other.
If the wattage is the same, will there be any increased heat which the light head may not be able to withstand?
...or, any other suggestions?
