Smallville Intro Screen Shatter Effect

Does anyone know if it's possible to use AE to achieve the effect in the new Smallville intro where the screen breaks apart and pieces of it fly toward the screen to reveal a new screen?

If anyone can point me to a tutorial or provide some advice, it would be greatly appreciated.

I think you can make it with a normal transmition effect, in Premiere too. But I am not sure what you are talking about.
 
Haven't seen it, but sounds like you could just use AE's Shatter effect, no?

I found a clip online of the Smallville intro that I'm describing. The effect I'm talking about is used as transition between the actor's credits:

I checked out that Creative Cow tutorial and on the last page, the "Messing With Gravity" section may just be what I'm looking for.

If anyone else has any other tips or suggestions, please let me know. I'll give it a shot and post my results.

Yep, its definitley possible, just use the shatter tool to break the footage apart as desired. use the "glass" shatter setting to get the style.
