SmallHD FOCUS: How well is this 5-inch working for you?

Even though I don't own Focus I still do not believe it is daylight viewable for critical focus. I am judging based on experience with Shogun Inferno. It has 1500 nits compared to Focus's 800 nits and it is still not enough for sunny day. Yes, you can see composition without problems, exposure is easy with it, but focus can be tricky.

But I still think Focus is great option for mirrorless, since 7 inches is too big for small cameras, this should be great buddy for mirrorless one.

I use a Focus on a C100. I love it and it's always on my camera. The hotshoe mount works well on a rod. It's bright enough for overcast days and isn't completely unreadable on bright days like the built in LCD. But I fashioned a hood for it and that makes it work well in all conditions. I use the smallest Sony NPF batteries, to keep the weight down, and can get a couple of hours work on one. The medium sized ones last +3 hours. Never used the 970 batteries since the length of those hinder articulation and are just heavy. The mini hdmi cable is proprietary since it snugly slides into a very silm slot and isn't easy to pull out. I had to buy a few at $19 each so that's a big con. Overall, a great monitor, though true 1080 would be nicer when you pinch to zoom. The Focus is only 720.

I forgot to add that the light weight is a big plus. In fact, I have an Atomos Ninja Star that I use when I need the higher bit rate and better color. I run a cable from the camera to the Atomos and a cable from the Atomos to the Focus. The two external devices are lighter than most monitor/recorders.
