Smallhd Customer Svc - What!? 501 monitor

Hey Guys, so I returned my smallhd 501 to repair a scratched screen and they sent it back with a new screen, but without my sd card and with the rubberizing scratched off on the frame. Aside from that, it only turned on once and then totally failed. So i sent it back so they could fix the (worse) damage they inflicted. The first repair took almost 2 months to get back. I was under the impression that the rubberizing was part of what makes it rugged. So they sent it back to me with an aluminum frame with no rubberizing. What is going on? I have dealt with a LOT of customer service but this is literally a joke. Does anyone have any idea if the rubberizing is important? Any connections there or ideas how to deal with this? I've already lost 2 months of shooting on an otherwise perfect $1000 monitor... I'm baffled.
 
Welcome to the world of VITEC! smallHD used to be an incredible(small company) here in NC with some of the best customer service available anywhere. I felt a little sad a few years ago when I found out that Vitec was buying them, because I KNEW what was going to happen. Anton Bauer used to be a good company, too...
 
oh no, so that's why? ugh. any thoughts on wether the rubber coating is important for protection or weatherproofing on the 501?
 
I don't own that model, so I can't say definitively, but I'm guessing the coating is more for your grip of the device, than anything
"functionally necessary"(i.e: it will function/work without it). BUT if the repair wasn't done properly and it was returned to you damaged or in any other way worse than the condition they received it, hold them accountable and don't accept any excuses. In the "old days", I've seen them turn repairs around in a day and even swap out whole monitors when there was an issue. But that was before they were part of a huge conglomerate that controlled half of the pro video equipment industry.
 
I think the edging is just to make it look cool in the product photography

Yep my SDI is bust on my 502 and Im not impressed with my service options.
