SmallHD 702 // Not turning on!

I just got the SmallHD 702 monitor and I've put in either an LP-E6 or a Sony NPF-770 battery and it doesn't turn on!

What is happening? What am I doing wrong? I'm pressing the on/off button but nothing happens!

Edit: I feel the monitor is warm, meaning it is draining power from the batteries but the screen doesn't turn on!

I finally received my replacement 702 monitor via AbelCine's RMA process.

And this one finally powers on but it came with a green stuck pixel!

I'm emailing SmallHD to see if this is covered under their warranty.

Seems like there are some quality control issues with the 702 monitor!

If you got it from Abel, send it back to Abel, especially if you JUST got it, regardless of what sHD's warranty policy is. I've spent well over six figures with Abel and you better believe if there was something wrong with something out of the box, it went(would go) back. Call your sales rep, tell them the problem and get an RMA and send it back. Period.

On on a side note: smallHD used to be all about customer service/customer happiness and would bend over backwards to make sure of it, BUT now that they have been gobbled up by Vitec, you may be getting a taste of the future for them.

Is there any other manufacturer that offers warranty for 1 or 2 dead pixels?

Almost any monitor I have ever purchased usually allowed up to 3 dead pixels so this is not an unusual practice.

I really hope they can get the 702 quality up to snuff as it seems SmallHD are the only ones making affordable, bright, thin, SDI/HDMI monitors.

Yes AbelCine has been wonderful, they are doing a second RMA for me.

They need to find the right price point to quality ratio. I don't mind paying a bit extra to ensure my product arrives 100%.

I would assume that SmallHD have the option of purchasing panels with zero dead pixels or with a higher percentage of dead pixels in order to adjust their cost of acquisition.

On a consumer-grade product yes, but I expect 100% perfect out-of-the-box for a pro-grade product. Yes $1499 is cheap for what the 702 does, but I am willing to spend more to ensure whatever I get is 100%.

I finally got my second replacement (third copy) of the 702 monitor.

And it finally:
1) Powers On
2) Has ZERO dead pixels.

This means I finally have a unit I can use and start to warm up to. One thing I noticed is that there is a gap between the screen and the actual enclosure (see pic below).

Looks like bad build quality to me. I have a 501 and it doesn't do that, the screen is flush with the actual enclosure. This has me wondering how long the 702 will last before it develops issues.

Is the gap in depth or width? I'm wondering if its depth left for the SmallHD screen protector.

Depth only. Good point, but the depth of the gap is similar on the left vertical and top horizontal portion of the screen. But the top horizontal portion has less gap on the right of it.

The gap is also less on the bottom horizontal portion. And there is no gap on the right vertical of the screen.

Keep in mind that my 501 has NO gap at all and it also takes a screen protector.

Ya that sounds like just shoddy QC. Wonder if this is the Vitec effect on SmallHD?
