SmallHD 702 7" 1080p Monitor

Brilliant! next logical step would be 701 with HDMI only for $200 less at NAB. Well done SmallHD , can;t wait to try it out at IBC

Whoa this might be exactly what I am looking for. I've been eyeing monitors lately and don't need external recording so I'd like to avoid that bulk. 502 looked very attractive but 7" is my preferred size for monitoring focus. Also lut support is a big feature for me so this seems to tick all those boxes.

Also the battery plate allows use of Canon LP-E6 or Sony L batteries. Smart.

I'd like to see a Sony BP-U (EX1) style batteries.

I'd also like to see some LP-E6 style batteries w/ LED battery indicator, as well as some larger, higher capacity ones. I guess at least Ikan & Swit makes some Sony L batteries with LED meters on the back & those have more juice than LP-E6, so I guess you can at least go with that.

No external power port again? Quite a pain. Can a Canon DC Coupler DR-E6 somehow be connected to an Anton Bauer battery?

Otherwise, looks nice.

No mention of IPS or 8 bit panel which tends to mean it is TFT and 6 bit.

Why does it seem like so many monitors are going backwards? They are chasing resolution instead of color precision and accuracy.

I'm surprised how sharp the 502 is. I like it a lot because it's compact and fits on smaller cameras very nicely, but a 702 Bright just makes me want one! Shooting outside is always a pain especially if you need a directors monitor. I still prefer a good EVF but when you need more eyes on the shot it's invaluable. Then again it's so fun to use a big towel and huddle under it to see the shot. Good times....

So what are the main differences between this and their original high bright? Why buy one over the other?

The SmallHD DP7-Pro High Bright is 1500 nit, 1280 x 800, 24 watt power draw, 19.2 oz, 800:1 contrast ratio, and $2500.

The SmallHD 702 is 1000 nit, 1920 x 1080, 8 watt power draw, 11 oz, 1000:1 contrast ratio, and $1500.

Despite the lower resolution, is the SmallHD DP7-Pro High Bright a better screen with better image quality and sharpness? What are you paying the extra $1000 for?

Regarding viewability in sunlight...

The 702 offers 1000 NITs of brightness, if you’re not familiar with that measurement it is said to be 2-3x brighter than a traditional LCD. The DP7-PRO High Bright offers 1500 NITs, but the new anti-glare reflection coating [on the 702] is likely to compensate.

“The LCD panel features optically bonded glass with anti-reflective coating. This greatly reduces glare and helps the high resolution, color accurate display remain visible.”
