Smallest moving GG solution yet???

Instead of shooting footage today, I spent some time in the shop. Power is now internal, using NiMh cells. Runtime is calculated at about 40 hours.

It was a bit of a challenge getting everything wired up and outside the frame, but with millimetres to spare, it's done. It's now wonderfully portable! Not sure if the cells help to dampen things down by adding mass, but the adapter is now even quieter. The production version (should be ready in about 3 weeks) will be slightly larger in diameter and will use carbon fibre tubing.

I've also reposted some sample footage...more to come.

Looks great, Dennis. I think a lot of us here are ready to send you some money. Please keep us updated on ordering info.

The Brevis35 (that's the official new name..a little Latin there) will have a web site. I'm completely focussed with the little time that I have, on getting it into production, so the site will come later.

Very nice, I may be interested in that! it has the most compact look I have seen yet for what's stuffed in there.
I may have missed on what the cost of a unit like this might be? if it's competitive then sign me up.

Better than Guskers35 would it be Dennis35 or Wood35! And it's a latin native speaking. That is, if it is a business to you. It's not irrelevant to give our name to a product that we want present as an add-value. If our name is there, it's why we believe in that. It's a prove that we can give to a foreign customer (not as non-national, of course, but as someone who we need to bring to our side as reliably soon as possible). Well, however it's not our business to talk about of these things -- right? And humbleness is a quality, too, so...

I downloaded your sample and I can tell you that I appreciate quite enough what I saw, then I'm posting now -- because I'd like to know:

1) losses prediction? -- about light I already read it but are there other hassles like grain, (sort of) glass, etc etc etc...or am I wrong?*
2) if are you thinking@HD resolution -- 720? 1080?
3) if yes, have you dates to that?
4) if yes, is it a 35mm adapter just to 1/3" cams?...or also to 1/2" ones like the new Sony's XDCAM-HD series or even to the 2/3" chip?
5) if yes, via step ring or (even as) relay lens?

Thanks in advance!

* the best promise out there as beta footage as concerned -- the Jonathan Houser's CineMek G35 has been in prepping since one year ago... (that's why it must ask it!)

P.S. Best wishes!...and I'll be waiting as your potential customer.

Yo quiero un Brevis35!!!!!

Emmanuel, I had a great detailed reply for you, hit post and she was gone :crybaby:

So a briefer reply:

1. I'm seeing a real average of 1 f/stop loss (50mm F/1.4). This isn't a guess, it's based on real observations on the cam. Anyone who has an adapter currently knows that except MPIC, they all show from 2 to 3 f/stops light loss in the field. That's why I abandoned the spinner. Engineered diffuser surfaces in those sizes (min 85-90mm disc) are simply too expensive.

2. HD will not be an issue. As long as the cam can focus a 24x36 frame from two inches away, it will be fine. The GS400 will zoom into a full 16:9 frame, and still maintain focus. Marking out a 24x36mm frame on a piece of paper and doing the frame focus test at 2 inches will tell you right away.

3. The parts are effectively being globally sourced. Providing that everyone holds their end, nothing's lost in shipping etc, 30 days is an optimistic target.

4. I don't have a larger chip cam at my disposal...so I wouldn't even offer up conjecture. There are issues there that I'm no doubt unaware of.

5. Attachment is using 72mm .75 pitch threads...the filter ring standard. The final version will have a set screw/slip ring combo to allow rotating the adapter once it is solidly affixed for frame alignment.

Ok Dan, skinniest. I had a good look at the MPIC on yours site and I can see that minus the bayonet mount and camera mount/macro, it is indeed the pico'est of the pico's. Actually my final version will be both longer and wider than your MPIC. Inspired by the MPIC? Absolutely. It's small, self contained and works. I wouldn't have thought it possible to achieve all my design goals in a very small package, but knowing that you have done it, spurred me onwards. Price is hard to pinpoint, because I don't have a firm cost on manufacture yet. My guess, is between 450 and 600.

Dan, you're an inspiration to lots of us. Damn you for getting that Sherline stuff in my head. My wife is going be cranked....

Now back on topic...

Can you blame me? This design looks awesome.

I've been shooting with an adapter for about a couple of months now and let me tell you there is No turning back.

Keep up the great work Gusker- anxious to see fresh footy.

I've been debating on the pre-order thing because once you do it, the pressure is on. However, none of this stuff is particulary cheap, so an idea of order volume is becoming essential. In the next few days I'll throw something up in my web space.

Virium, you're first on whatever list I come up with.:dankk2:

Gusker,

Quick question. Since all of this is geared by DIY are you only aiming to sell these or sharing how you were able to make it. If not, that's understandable.
