Smallest moving GG solution yet???

One of the many to do things is to establish expedited shipping with a few different vendors, other than Canada Post :)

Some good news to add: We will definitely be having custom achromats made once the reports come back from the beta group. These will be fully coated, 72mm achromats. At +10 (which at 72mm is simply not available commercially) they would be in the $130 area. I'm almost certain however, that the strongest macro required will be a +3. In that case, the achromat will be a fair bit cheaper.

They will be available for sale to anyone, not just Brevis users.

That's good news.

Likes I said on email, it seems the DVX will need one of these; I'll let you know which one once the adapter comes. I should have recorded it, and I mgiht do it again, but this whole placing the print thing so far away from the filter threads just isn't doing it for me, I keep bumping it and can't get it framed right. :p I'd rather just order a set of cheap macros, and show you what happens with and without them when I get the adapter.

I hear ya. I just got another set of cheapo ebay macros so I now have 55 and 72mm sets for my own testing. For $25, you can't complain. When I'm done, I'm putting handles on them and my daughter can use them for science experiments...you know, starting fires, that sort of thing :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Once I'm done filming the grandparents, maybe they'll get a set too for reading.

These macros all have removable lenses, so you could remove the glass and use them as spacers, from 35mm down to 6mm in 4 increments.

By end of day tomorrow I should have the first set of CNC parts!!!

filmmaker...everthing's on the site at www.cinevate.com I expect to be shipping April 6 as planned.

V, the whole idea of achromats is to use two different types of coated glass in a two element lens that is cemented together...thereby reducing chromatic aberrations. Will I check them? Of course. However without exotic additives like oxides of barium or lanthanum, or using flourite, correction will be very good, but not perfect. There is definitely a balance there between cost and performance and theoretically, no achromat is perfect.

Just came back from the machine shop. There's a few $100 000s of CNC machine lathe spinning at some unheard of rpm, coolant flying all over the place....it's very, very, cool. The Brevis will be manufactored to +- .001" ... which is very tight tolerance.

Diffusors are 2 days away, and once final approval of the initial CNC run...we're cooking with gas!

Right on target for April 6th. An utterly astounding amount of time has gone into this...but it will be worth it.

Apart from the mount it self will there be any differences between the Canon FD Brevis35 and the others?

Rawf, the only difference will be the mount, and its flange to GG distance. Remember that the mounts are completely adjustable/interchangeable, so the Brevis chassis must be standard to accept them. As a design goal, a lot of work went into making sure this would be possible, while keeping costs low.

Technically you could have 5 different lens mounts, with the same Brevis chassis. Swapping them out would take about 60 seconds, with a little extra time to ensure flange to GG distance is correct. Once set, you will not mess with them again.

Thanks, Dennis.

Will any type of manual be included with the Brevis? Like "how to adjust the flange to GG distance", "how to find the sharp spot" and that kind of stuff.

Well, knowing you as a hard core DIYer, I can easily imagine you having fun in there... :)

The machine shop is indeed DIY heaven!

Rawf, based on some previous comments from other adapter buyers, I have indeed come up with a plan. You will have all information in your hands to get started shooting immediately, as well as extra info for the beta group. Expect a "language neutral" tool as well.

A private area of the forum will be made available to customers with more in-depth information.

Dude, I'm getting stoked on this thing.

I want to hear the the new ver and i'm Anxious to see some HVX and DVX footy.

I've started saving my pennies.

This looks like the new winner.

Dennis, my friend, if this is as promissing as it sounds...I'll fly to Canada and build a statue of you holding the Brevis35 in the middle of the central square.

We don't have a central square in Canada Rawfa....

But I'll help you build it at young and dundas square.

I'm excited too.

I guess I said it before but I went to Montreal to visit my family in December and I simply loved it (the biggest snow storm in the last 30 years took place the day I arrived). I'm looking forward to visiting again.

Dennis for someone on my level most of this talk is flying over my head so fast I'm losing hair. An instructional video would help. Don't want to hurt my baby!

Kenny, that idea has come up before...and it's a good one. The reality is that English is not everyone's first language, but as traffic signs can attest, a picture is worth a thousand words. :) And jeeps, DVD's are cheap.
