Smallest moving GG solution yet???

I'll give you a clue...not Toronto, but a city harbouring the largest Finnish population outside of Finland.

That ice would be in no danger of melting here :-O I'll see what I can do for the people footage...other than the grandparents you've already been subjected to, that is. I'm a bit hesitant to post footage of recognizable people (public that is) without releases.

If you put footage of your grandparenst it will be even better, because this way we will be able to compare the evolution better. Besides your granparents are very photogenic. You should put them in one of your movies. ;-)

Ha, they're not my grandparents...they're my daughter's grandparents. Those are my folks you're looking at. Funny thing, once you procreate, (highly recommended BTW) they stop being your parents, and become "The Grandparents".

I should probably wait for the new diffusers. The images will be even better both because I'll have less zoom in (about 6% less) and the diffuser won't be beat to crap. The technical drawings were signed off yesterday on these. I'm also doing some wonderfully scientific experiments to tune the production version a bit based on about 2 hours of conversation yesterday with an optical engineer. Jeeps, I feel like I'm back in my university physics program. This project's way more fun though.

There is nothing at this point preventing an April 6 ship date. It will be tight with the diffusers, but that's the date I'm commited to. I'm not sleeping a lot ....

I'm adding anti-reflective coated (both sides) dust shields at both ends of the adapter. These have better than 97% transmission and will have neglible effect on light loss. There will be no extra cost to the beta group.

Many folks have complained (and I've seen a lot of "dusty" footage posted) of dust and other debris ending up in their adapter. With the design changes, the Brevis will be splashproof with respect to water....quieter too.

Me too. I just found out via a surprise phone call that one of my friends has arranged a breakfast/demo with the local film school dean, and a few other interested parties. I wasn't expending any effort locally (local pop. 110 000), but apparently there's a lot of local enthusiasm.

This one looks to be the most promising out of all the adapters for the price ect and your follow focus?? its dan's right?? looks like you sold me on this one.

GOOD STUFF!

Thanks Mike. Coming from you, that's an accolade I'll take pretty seriously. I'm working very hard at building the best of everything out there, while keeping things affordable. Now if I can just figure out a good manufacturer of high quality achromat lenses...I'll be happy. I believe the DVX's will require an achromat in the 80mm focal length range, and I'd absolutely hate to see standard "filter" macros used with all the chromatic aberration they potentially bring.

I've been found out. I'm not Finn, but by gosh I have one of those saunas in my basement :-)

I wouldn't be much of a Corinthian fellow if I discussed the FF at length here...that would be putting the cart well before the horse in this case. I will say that if all goes well, you'll have access to an outstanding FF unit, at a great price.

Hey Dennis,

How is the adapter holding up under different conditions? I know that is something that most don't test for. Heat brings expansion, cold contraction. Might be worth checking ino...

I've only tested the prototype down to -10C, and so far a high temp of about 25C. For most epoxies used in carbon fibre matrixes, the manufacturers suggest keeping working temps under 85C, or about 185F.

So other than battery life, I'm pretty convinced that the adapter would work well within manufacturer's camera guidelines.

Dennis I told you I was going with the Canon fd setup. So far I have a 50mm 1.4 lens. What other Canon lens should I be looking for? And what lens should I stay away from? Keep up the work G!

Ach. I hope you find something. :undecided

There's no doubt the Brevis35 works like a charm with the gs400, but what worries me is how it will react with 72mm cameras. I'm very excited about it but I can't help worring...this is due to a bad experience with the letus35. When I had the letus35 one of the main problems that made it unusable for me was that you had to zoom in A LOT to avoide filming the adapters' interior and that would not allow you to find "the sharp hot spot". I'm not sure I made my self clear here. I'm not trying to compare these adapters. From what I've seen the Brevis35 is sharp, with no barrel distortion or color aberration (big problems with the letus35 and many other 35mm adapters). I'm totaly sold. But aparently the problem I just described is very comon (the M2 requires a spacer tube for some cameras). I guess I'll only know when I try it, but it would be nice to see some footage from a 72mm camera. You were making some tests with an XL1, rigtht, Dennis? How is that going?

Rafa, I've done a quick test on the Xl1s (72mm) and it worked fine with the prototype...which by the way has a smaller opening than the production version by 10mm, and is in a smaller tube than the production version. I was able to frame the GG fine, no vignette, and zoom in only enough to frame the GG properly. Remember the GG image is effectively much larger than the letus, M2, etc. I'll be going back to see the XL1s owner with the final version and I will definitely post the footage. Given that the production version GG is closer to the rear mount, is in a larger tube, and is framed by a larger opening...I can say with 100% confidence that it will work perfectly.

I've also modified the final design for the HD100, based on email exchanges and framing tests with an HD100 shooter. All told there's at least another 10 hours of CAD work/tweaks that have been done.

I should have the first production adapter in my hands this weekend. What I won't have this weekend are the new diffusers, but I will pop in my beat up prototype version for a quick test.

After reading the adapter review here's one thing for sure...you guys are going to love the Brevis!
