Smallest moving GG solution yet???

DJ, it is the final version, however the screen is now seriouly beat up from countless removals and reinstalls in the prototype. If you look carefully on the lower left you might be able to see a nasty scar. It's amazing how much abuse will disappear when the GG is in motion. I am negotiating with the manufacturer to get a slighly wider (2mm) screen made to give the 16:9 cams (HVX200 etc.) a bit of help.

Rawfa, the FX1 may need a spacer tube, but that remains to be seen. My new domain name, site and forum will be up in very short order (2 days!)

Thanks guys. I think we're pretty set for testers, however I'm opening up the production pre-order process very shortly. The site is up, and although it's undergoing a major facelift, the guts are there, as is the forum. I'll be working on it a fair bit over the next few days. So far 0 glitches in the supply chain (I'm touching my wooden desk as I type this)...the parts are streaming in from literally around the world. I'm literally stoked to see what you guys are going to do with this thing.

Hmm. In that picture, it looks like the 35mm lens is on there at an angle, not straight on - as if the weight is forcing it to rest on the rods, which causes the angle of the lens to be turned downwards.

I could see this being a problem when shooting, as well as a detracting factor to potential pre-orders. do you have better photographs?

Bleu, even plastic camera threads can support the adapter and lens no problem. It doesn't sag perceptibly. The reason for the rails is unless you have metal filter threads, a plastic camera chassis will deflect under load...like a person racking focus. You're likely seeing paralax in the shot you refer to. If you have a camera like the GS400 with a plastic chassis, rails are a must for clean shots IMO. If you've auditioned the crane/jib/adapter footage you will see that several shots (eg. the one through the bike's front sub frame) were racked while the dolly/jib was moved through the space. That would be impossible to do cleanly without rails with the GS400.

Once you get your hands on an adapter...it will all be clear to you. Carbon fibre is incredibly light and stiff..it generally does not deform until failure....in this case your camera filter threads would be ripped off long before the unit would measureably deflect.

Good question though.

Nice web site Dennis. I believe in what you are doing. My deposit should have gotten there by today.

We had a fire in Sept. and my paypal password is out there, somewhere. They say it will take 11 days for a new password.

At first glane I agreed with bleu. So I stared at the pic for about 15 secs and it began to look straighter, okay, and then I stood up looking down at the monitor and the lens appeared to be tilting upward. I think its the angle we look from. Anyway I'm planning on using this lens like Ali used his fist. To shake up the world!

Lookin' great dude! Can't wait for this thing to be ready to go! I'm ready to shoot some stuff the moment I get it! :)

Me too. Actualy I'm just waiting for it to start shooting a narrative project that requires dof. What is it now? 2 weeks left?

Well officially, 4 weeks takes us to April 6 for a ship date, and we're churning ahead on schedule :-) As many have noted, I'm working my kiester off to get these done. Some great news on the production design diffuser that's going to make you 16:9 shooters very happy....it may delay the ship date a few days, but it will be worth the wait.

The carbon fibre chassis tubing looks stunning :-)

Ha, if you could see the prototype diffuser now you'd laugh, and you'd be amazed I was even getting usable footage. It looks like a battle scarred tomcat (ripped ear and all). I did some work to shorten the prototype about 8mm and subjected the diffuser to further abuse...and the footage still looks great.

I'll try and get some more footage up soon. I wouldn't mind doing a repeat of that bike/crane/dolly shot at a higher f/stop and better light.

Shoot people if you can. It's better for evaluation purposes. You you REALLY feel like shooting the bike/crane/dolly shot you should put a bikini model sitting on the bike...for evaluation purposes, of course ;-) It's always easier to check out skin tones that way.

In Toronto... ? in March....? hmmm... might be tough to convince somebody....
even so... the skin wouldn't look very apealing (would require too much color correction I think)

Skin looks ok to me except for the dirty feet.
