Small Rig - Tribex Tripod

I was looking for a "travel" tripod, and settled on the new Tribex model to hold my FX6 (vs my existing e-image legs and head). There are plenty of youtube "reviews" on this thing, but if you have any questions let me know and I'll try to answer them as best I can. So far it looks pretty good (for what it is). The big departure from a normal tripod is it does not have a bowl and you level the whole thing using the "hydraulic" legs. Sounds weird but it works well, is fast and easy. The fluid head is also much smaller than usual but handles the FX6 just fine with smooth pan/tilts and no drift/droop (once adjusted).

All the usual specs are on their product page:

I got one, too. So far I really like it. We'll have to see how it holds up over time. The speed of deployment and adjustment is unbeatable.

Thanks for posting. I'm actually looking for a super small and light weight tripod for some travel in small planes where weight will be an issue. I'm willing to give up a little performance, but hopefully not too much. I might give this one a try.

Does anyone else have alternative suggestions? I won't need it until summer so I'm thinking of holding off purchasing until I can test drive a few at NAB. Heck, by then maybe NorBro will have a used one for sale. Somehow he has a closet full of odd and ends.

I too will be interested in seeing how it goes with sand, salt etc, but it does seem oddly well built and well thought out. One thing I cannot find is a link to a manual for it (please let me know if you have a working link) but I've emailed them, so I'll post it once they respond.

I saw Potato Jet talk about this a while back and I watched a few reviews when it came out. It looks like a really good product. I'll be interested to know what sort of life-span the leg-extending mechanism has. At least with traditional tripods, there's not much to go wrong with them.

I feel like the build quality is on par with other smallrig accessories. It's nice and the machining feels pretty accurate. I wouldn't say that it feels as durable as a Sachtler tripod.

Yeah that's my only concern, that the magical clutch release will stop working properly within the first 2 years. If I can get 2 years of dependable use out of it, I'll be happy.

This seems pretty fair.

Thanks for the link. Not exactly a ringing endorsement. Feels like he his holding back a little bit on what he'd really like to say if he wasn't being paid. I think I'll wait for NAB to see what other options I find.
