Lo folks.

im considering buying a mic (ntg1) and a shockmount for my dvx100

Røde sells 3 different types of "videouse" shockmounts, the SM3 which comes with a shoe adapter, SM4 that comes with that tripod screw thing, and SM5 which comes with something called "Clamp Adaptor" Described like this:

"A shotgun microphone suspension shock mount for high end video cameras. The SM5 shock mount is designed specifically to fit Panasonic® and Sony® video cameras with clamp mounts."

What is a "Clamp mount"?
Does my DVX have it?

If you want to mount the mic directly on to your dvx, your choice is SM3 or SM5.

The SM3 screws directly onto your cameras shoe mount ...

...and the SM5 to the dvx's mic holder, so it's your choice.

The SM4 is meant to be used with a boom pole on which you can screw it on.

I bought the SM4 and made my own diy boom pole from a cheap fishing pole :D (The mic in these pics is the Rode NTG1, great mic for the money!)

Hope this helps.

Ah.. I see. thx alot! :)

I think I am going for the SM5. I might want the camerashoe for a monitor or something later..

Good choice Kudi, you can always use the hotshoe for an on-camera light or a wireless receiver.

Badlaa, nice images and steady explanation! :)

I've got the Rode 3 and it is an all around utility mount.

Hot shoe adapter so it can go on top of camera and also has screw thread so it can be put on a boom pole. No exta parts needed. It is an all in one. Got mine for $35.00 (which I think is way low) but even at $49.95 which is what I paid at Samy's when I bought one for a friend, it is still a great price for a versitile and effective shock mount.
