OTHER: Slugline -- a scriptwriting editor environment based on the Fountain...

Slugline is a Mac screenwriting app, available on via the Mac App store. The program uses Fountain, a screenplay 'format' which allows one to use simple, keyboard based, syntax to format screen plays. Some like the mouse action that many 'windowing' based editors use, but many like to keep their fingers at the keyboard as much as possible (Like me...). So, apps that require some amount of mouse action to get 'simple things' done, are a 'less than for me'.

For most of my 'text editing' life I have used the unix 'vi' or various modern versions, which is pretty much text only, with a few 'macro' or 'command line' type editing commands. I only use them when I'm doing global actions... by I memorized the 6 or so 'vi' commands years ago, and they are now pretty much embedded in my brain...

But Slugline seems to allow for a more wysiwyg type interface, but maintaining the 'pure text' Fountain for the saved file, so if one is using a device that is not a Mac, such as a iPad or the like one can use a 'really simple' text editor.

As it is I have not bought the app, nor do I receive any 'benefit' by announcing its availability, I just like to tell people about alternatives to 'expensive' tools, even though some may think that 250 or whatever for Final Draft is not that expensive...

I suspect there may be a iPad 'slugline' version out there... but as yet unannounced... but I could be wrong on that...

I don't know why people don't just stick to Final Draft.

Why don't people just stick to:

That one, nearly 100 years old... still works... will that be said of any current 'electronic' method of getting grey matter on paper.

Seriously, though, I like that there are other options for writing screenplays other than Movie Magic & Final Draft. Especially considering the majority of screenwriters are writing more than selling, and rather spend $250+ on their rent than on script writing software. Final Draft is great if you can afford it. I have Celtx on my phone, which is good on the go. It would be great if Slugline was available for tablets and iPhones later on.
