Sluggish MBP after connect to hd used with old MBP

Hi
Slightly off topic here but working with FCPX and preparing fiiles for use:

There are some rarely needed apps on my old MBP not on my newer MBP. The couple times I've used the old MBP I save files to a portable hd, unplug the drive and connect to my new MBP. The problem is when I do that my newer MBP immediately becomes sluggish, unresponsive, apps won't open, so I reboot and it either won't start up properly or takes forever.

Anyone know the issue? All I've done is work on the files on one MBP, connect the drive with the fiiles to my newer MBP and whammo--my newer MBP acts daft.

Is your new MBP trying to index the new drive? If so, turn it off for that drive.
