SLR Lenses on Adapters

Okay, so basically, I know that when you use SLR lenses on a camcorder using an adapter, the lens tend to act as if they had a longer focal length... for example, when I used a 35mm, it actually seemed telephoto...

So, I'm just wondering... does every lens react differently or is there a standard ratio? So that, for example, if I wanted the look of a 35mm lens used on a normal film camera, I'd have to go with a 10mm, say, for my XH A1?

I'll be ordering a set of Nikon SLR enses soon, and so I'd appreciate your help.

Anybody?

Like, I know that if you use a 35mm lens with the P+S Technik Mini35 Adapter on a video camera, it maintains an identical depth of field and angle of view as the same lens on a 35 mm camera.

But if you're using, say, the Brevis or some other adapter... how can you counter the effect, or work around it?

actually, it should be the same. U may have to tweek your adapter but it should be the same view as a film SLR, (not a digital SLR, inless u have a 1:1 ratio camera)

I tested this and set up a film camera and video camera with adapter and played around till they where identical. This was with an M2.

I did the same with the brevis and i noticed it was slightly wider. (slightly) definitely not telephoto.

Im not sure what adapter your using but it may be the adapter that is doing this. Or u may have alot of fall off from the lens and u are zoomed into the GG too much. Hope this helps.

If you use a 35mm adapter and it is setup correctly then you should be able to obtain a true representation of the lens used. The image is presented on a ground glass set at the correct focal distance used in 35mm film and then your camcorder is focused on the opposite side of the ground glass. this then gives you the 35mm look and feel including the DOF.

I think you're confused between a 35mm adapter and the EF adapter for the Canon XL series. Due to the smaller chip size on those cameras, putting an SLR lense on the body via an adapter will magnify the effective focal length by a factor of 7. So a 50mm becomes 350mm telephoto for example. A 35mm adapter such as the Brevis will have no such effect.
