Slowing down playback, not the clips

Hi All.

Using Final Cut Pro HD how can I slow down the playback of the timeline, but not the clips?

I'm editing a music video and the song moves at around 200+ bpms so it's FAST and I'd like to slow things down a lot so I can find my edit/cut points a little easier.

Please help! :-)

you can use the arrow keys or hold down k and then push j or l to go real slow. you can scub to find beats.Use the shuttle ect. you can also zoom in on the wave form and look at it to find beats you want to cut to. hope that helps.

Thanks guys. I tried your suggestions but can't get it to work the way I need it. I need a constant playback at around 50% so that I can hit the M key and add markers on the fly. Any idea what I'm doing wrong, or another way I can try it?

You could set playback of clip to 50%, do your marks and then set back to 100%. The markers are scaled correctly.

My suggestion would be to hit the markers in real time and adjust them as need be.
If timing is that critical you'll probably need step around the cut point anyway, especially if they're right after each other. You can also display the waveform and may see where key beats are.
