Slowest Drive Possible?

Hey guys,

I'm going to be shooting with the HVX soon and I'm stoked. I played with a bit at NAB and it fells great in my hands.

Sadly (as usual) I'm on a very tight budget. I need to buy a Hard Drive so I can store and edit.

Is it possible to edit from LaCie 250GB 7200RPM Drive? Or am I just dreaming?

If I'm crazy, can someone suggest a cheap drive that'll work? Keep in mind I don't need a lot of space as I'm working an a very small experimental short.

Thanks guys,

I suppose you'll even able to edit from a 5400 RPM drive or less. Maybe you're just limited in the numbers of simultanous video streams.

I won't have my HVX until friday...but from what I read thus far.. 7200 is perfectly fine... i think more importantly it is the speed of your technology usb2.0, fw400, fw800, or sata I or II. I think the optimum choice is fw800 (if you have a fw800). The BEST is SATA II.

Check out the sata II test at barefeats:It smokes everything else. This card is for the macbookpro and won't be out until july (I emailed them and they told me July). Seritek makes SATA cards for the powerbooks as well as desktops.

You can buy sata pci cards and enclosures here:

and read about seritek here:

Very satisfied with them (cooldrives) thus far.
