I am considering purchasing a small dedicated computer for HD video capture. I know what it says the minium specs are for DVRack are but is anyone running it on something slower with good success. Right now they say it needs a 2.0GHz single core or 1.8GHz dual core computer. It seems they are just guessing at the specs trying to get people to buy modern machines.

I have been looking at tablets but most either have low voltage or slower chips. Let me know what you guys thing.

I think their specs were created with HDV in mind, which is what their HDV Powerpak was targeting. With HDV's GOPs, if you failed to keep up with the flow of data and couldn't decode all frames in realtime, you were SOL and had to wait for the next I-frame. Thus, you'd see major stuttering.

With DVCProHD, it doesn't matter if your processor can't keep up because each frame can be decoded independently, so even though the data rate is higher, you'll still get better performance than with HDV if you have a low-end CPU.

I've got a Toshiba P4M 1.5GHz, and DV Rack 2.0 HD runs fine on it.

The best thing to do is to download the free trial and see how it performs on your system.
