Can someone tell me why it takes me forever to render my 19. min short on a 24p timeline. I'm rendering out to a quicktime movie format and I also tried an avi. format but that takes something like 2 hours to render it seems like. What am I doing wrong I just want to see how my short looks like on DVD. I need help with this badly. I want my movie to look sharp exactly like I filmed it.

Thanks desperately needing help!

The more effects you add, the longer it will take.

The slower your computer, the longer it will take.

The more programs you have running on your computer while you render (including Internet, virus protection, and other "silent" background apps), the longer it will take.

SO basically I should shut everything off and then render my project . I just bought a maxtor 200gb external hard drive do you think it with render faster if I render to this drive?

Well, I also did not mention that you should have a dedicated video hard drive. Give everything you said a try and see if it helps.

if you just want to see your short on DVD why are you rendering out to avi or QT .. you should be rendering out to mpeg2 for DVD .... unless you plan to double render - 1st to avi or QT then take that and render to mpeg .. but you did say you wanted the BEST looking DVD and IMO teh less renders the better - go direct to mpeg2 ... use a min bit rate of 5,000,000 .. average around 6 to 7,000,000 ... max 8 ot 9,000,000

if you have your rendering set to BEST then Vegas is going to resample every frame where something has changed from original frame ( fx, CC ,pan, etc ) .. rendring GOOD works best for most projects .. if you are scaling or changing speeds then use BEST if not use GOOD ...

if you can visually/verbally count the frame #'s as vegas renders ( under preview window) it's not going to make any difference if you have a single hard drive or the fastest raid drives in the world - it's your CPU that is under a heavy load ...

Is it possible that having save project markers in media file checked slowing down my rendering process?
