Slow Motion

I have used this so many times...maybe one of my settings changed, but when i apply a slow motion to a clip (command-J), my footage shifts. I never had this problem with this command in the past. When i made the edit the footage remained in place and gave me the effect i needed.

Can anyone help with my problem?

Thank you,
Nathan

What do you mean by shifts? Do you mean that the frames change (different content enters into the cut that you didn't want)? Do you mean that if shifts in that it pushes/pulls the timeline? If you meant the latter, not sure why it never happened to you before, but likely that was some serious luck, because that's what a speed change on the timeline in FCP does. A lot of the users here create a seperate sequence specifically to make their adjustments and then cut the footage over to their main editing timeline. There are other ways to go about it too, just that one has been mentioned quite a bit on this forum.

cheers.

I make my in/out points in the viewer and the footage shifts...before i would do that and my in/out would remain in place...using FCP for 5 years and that has never happened in the past

So you're using the speed change (apple + j) command in the viewer directly? If so, why not just set the whole clip to your desired speed then splice in what you need. I just did a quick test myself, and it seems to ok. I get a couple of frames "extra" at the tail, but that's about it (and literally, just a couple frames). Is the problem you're having more drastic then that?

i will try that...makes sense...another thought...could it be too because of my timeline settings....not importing correctly? my footage was 720x480 and i captured with DVCPRO HD - 720p24 48khz
