Slow Motion

I'm a new DVX owner and I shot a music video this weekend. I spend the track up to 125% in FCP. I played the track fast on location and the artist sang fast. I then slowed the footage down to 75% in FCP. But the sync seemed way off. Can anyone give me any tips? I want his motion to look slow but lips to be normal.

Thanks,
BigB

Are you talking about the effect used in all those MTV videos? The talent is clearly moving in slow motion but their lips are still matching the lyrics.

This effect is attained by the talent singing at the same speed the camera is running. For example, if they are shooting at 48fps (double speed) then the music is played backed at double speed and the talent has to lip sync in time. That way when the the film is played at 24fps (slow motion effect) the talents lips will match the audio track being played at normal speed.

Cheers

Pulling this effect off requires a little math work beforehand. I think your numbers may be a bit off. There are posts on this forum somewhere with the magic formula, so to speak. There are a finite number of ways to make this work -- and an infinite number of ways to foul it up.

Good news is you can fix anything with Twixtor. Bad news is it'll cost ya.

ive done it shot a clip in 60i and played the audio about 150% then slowed the video down 50% to sync it up perfect. Coldplay does it in like every video.
