hey guys! just wanted to know if u could give me some tips for my slowmotion takes....i want to know because, i ve seen on music videos and it looks pretty cool.....i think i have to acellerate the music " plaback" . or what???
Many editors will let you slow down the audio with the video and pitch shift the audio back up to sound pretty normal. Within the range of about 2X it can sound ok. I just finished a short where there was a dream sequence and I wanted characters to talk slower but their voices to sound "off" but not too "off". I basically slowed them down to half speed and slowed down their audio to half speed but only did 3/4 pitch correction. This worked well for me. I use Vegas and it supports all this internally (Vegas has great audio features).
The other concern is that if you shoot in 24p your video may start to look "stroby", particularly if there's signficant motion in the scene because you are slowing it down to 12 fps. You can shoot at 30p in the DVX and slow it down in your timeline to 24p with no loss of quality, however that's only a 20% reduction and it doesn't really look like "slo-mo". The real way to do it is to shoot 60i and then deinterlace the frames. That way you get 60 fields per second to play back at 24 fps, a more than 2x slow-down. The downside here is that each frame of video will look softer or fuzzier. Your video will essentially be 720 x 240, with the 240 being stretched up to 480 (assuming NTSC numbers here).
i've also heard of people, instead of pitch correcting a slowed down shot, actually puttin the song in their NLE and speeding the song up to 125%, burn that to a cd, and have the artist lip sync faster. shoot this in 30p, and then conform the footage to 24 fps.
whats up, i just noticed your link t the deadlinetrailer, isnt your name on www.bmxboard.com War pig or sharpler? i know i have seen your video before. i go by "andrew" on there. small world.
