Slow motion problem in Vegas 5

I recently picked up Barry's DVX book and I was trying my hand at doing the 30p slow motion look with Vegas. Well, I followed the directions to spec:

1. record footage at 30p
2. slow footage down to 80% in NLE (I set up a velocity envelope to do this)

What's supposed to happen is that you get 20% slower motion, but no interpolated frames, it's supposed to give you untouched progressive frames if you use exactly 80% velocity for the clip.

What does happen is that I get mushy, interpolated frames! It's like Vegas is ignoring the native framerate trick Barry describes. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks!

Yes, I'm on a 24p timeline. I also tried moving the velocity envelope up and down to values like 60 and 90, but any movement at all produces interpolated frames. There is some slight motion blur in a few of the native frames and I can tell it's definitely progressive until I make the velocity change.

Thanks for replying!

After a little bit more testing, I found that I had to turn off "smart resample" in the clip to get this to work like I wanted it to. It looks pretty good now, thanks for the help!
