Hi Group,

I was hoping that someone can suggest a great FCP plug-in for slow motion, I shot in 24p adv, and I'm editing in a standard 29.97 timeline in FCP 5, but the slow motion looks terrible when I try to slow down the footage. Any plug-in suggestions, or just maybe I'm doing something wrong and is there anything that I can do in Final Cut to make the footage look smooth, or smoother. thanks very much for your help!!

If you shot in 24pa why are you editing in 29.97?
I don't use it, but Twixtor is pretty popular for getting smooth slo mo.

you got to make sure your project preferences are set to 23.98fps for your sequence. editing in 29.97 will cause you problems since your footage is 24p. you have to capture to 24p & edit in 24p. you might want to check your settings.

You can try time-re-mapping in final cut it works good, BUT? I've learned got be very delicate with it. basically play with it, and test export to a compressed quicktime h264 or a dvd file. Cause it might look good on your desktop LCD but once on a TV, might look like crap.

Motion can smooth and do time re-mapping- with the optical flow feature which smooths it out better than FCP.
But I havent worked with motion to much yet myself.

From what I read on the Net. Twixtor is the way to go for the best slow-mo.

thanks for your reply, I'm editing a documentary with lots of standard (news footage) video, so I was told to edit in 29.97, please let me know if you have a better suggestion, I"m much appreciated of your help!

Thanks for your reply, I'm editing in a lot of standard video, (news footage) which is why I'm editing in 29.97, any suggestions are much appreciated, thank you very much?!!

Yes, I did a whole movie using twixtor to create motion from still frames, shot at 4fps and sometimes slowed down to 1%.
It rocks.
To have super-clean super slowmo you would need Twixtor pro that allows you to do layers and stuff. (i didn't, so there are some artifacts that were made as part of the style.)

If your edit 23.97 footage in a 29.97 timeline, you might want to add pull-down to the clips so it becomes 29.97, and everything will be happier. :)

You need no plugin for good low mo. You'll be hard pressed to finf better results than after effects, regardless of interlacing or original fps.
