Slow Motion of 30P footage.....

I have some footage that was shot in 30P on a DVX and there are a few shots I would like to slow mo. If I just change the speed on the FCP timeline, it interlaces the footage in an extremely horrible fashion, making it useless. I then decided to attempt the same slow mo rate (50% just for exprimental purposes) in After Effects which did a WAY better job of it. AE seemed to repeat frames instead of attempting to draw info from different frames and interlacing them together the way that FCP did. Even at 50% the AE slow mo looked pretty good.

However, when I rendered the footage from AE and imported it in to FCP, there is an OBVIOUS degradation in the image quality compared to the untouched clip in FCP.

Is this due to the slowing, the AE render settings (Animation / no fields / 30 fps), or the re-render on the FCP time line?

Any formulas to try instead of these? Am I missing something.

Use the Cinema Tools application that came with FCP. File->OpenClip, then click "Conform", "Conform to 23.98" then "Conform" again. Close Cinema Tools. Open FCP, import the clip into a 23.98 timeline and it will playback at 80% of its' originally recorded speed. All you are doing is changing the playback framerate, thus there is no loss of quality using this method. Hope it works out well for you.

With 30P, this is the only good way to get slow motion.
If you shoot 60i, there are more options available with plug-ins.

Did you try to slow down you 30P footage to 80% which will make true 24P slow motion (not that slow) but it's the cleanest slow motion possible.
